The News: By Alain De Botton
‘in its stoking of our fears, the news cruelly exploits our weak hold on a sense of perspective’.
The News are all over the place, you cant even rest your eyelids for a few seconds, that an emergency would pop in somewhere in this wide world.
We are being addicted to such headlines and the information that is being delivered . . .
HOWEVER
we have never put twice of a thought into it, yes it.
we scroll through our feeds and read the headlines in a robotic speed, that in 30 minutes time we’re ready to talk about whatever those feeds have fed our brains and minds, without thinking about the truthfulness of such an information. And whether we as viewers shall take what has been said into consideration.
As always, our dependency on such televised information boosts the adrenaline in regards to the accuracy of such a thing. Regardless of you as a rational being, knowing about the falsification of it, your mind will set itself up into believing it directly.
WHY? You would ask.
Well that’s because we have been taught to believe whatever has and is being televised through the media and our social feeds as for our modern technology is always true. PURE TRUTH. We’re in a loophole of media attention that is being dragged and marked through serious international issues. Yes there are things that are real to the core, BUT NOT EVERYTHING IS !!
As readers and all-day seekers of international news and changes, we need to learn the steps and the methodology of what to believe and HOW
The News, By Alain De Botton, is the guideline we as information consumers, need to learn in order to protect ourselves with, and through. Yes indeed, protect ourselves from the psychological harm that those feeds and televised falsifications fill our minds with.Because not only are we going to be staying the night panicking and overthinking a situation that is way out of our control, but we will seek additional answers by reading more and more of it. Digging deep, so deep until we fully drown.
Yes the red headline with a huge font and dark letters does in fact work against you. You would genuinely believe that its there to alert and prepare you for what’s yet to come and what’s happening in that part of the world. Yes, part of it is true. However, the mind games they’re playing are more dangerous than anyone would ever imagine.
Your guide towards a healthy mindset and a proper way of analyzing news feeds and headlines is all within this publication. You will get to know how those feeds care about nothing but their own profit and benefit, while making you anxious and want to stick your nose the whole day into their meant channels and social accounts. That’s a winning game for them, scaring you by using tough vocabulary meant to spread fear all over your body,
They’re winning, they have and they are. So learn to take in all the news with a clear mindset that is ready to move forward regardless of the vocabs used and the psychological mind games they’re playing on you throughout the delivery of the information. Whether its true or not, you as a reader need to know the tricks they’re using to make you want to stick around and not leave that position of yours. Those tricks come in easy and sweet that I can guarantee, you have never noticed before !
I will let you find that for yourself within the book, but I can give you some key words on what those things are, and its your duty to dig in through them to find out more !
- RED STRIPS
- CAPITAL LETTERS
- TOUGH AND SERIOUS TONE WHILE DELIEVERING A SPECEFIC INFROMATION.
- THE REPITION OF SUCH A FEED
ETC . . .
But have you ever thought to yourself, why are the news always related to tragedies?
I mean the word itself illustrates the picture in your mind before even knowing what , where and how. But because the human mind is used to protect itself and shutdown at points when tragedies are out of control, you will feel numb and your daily routine would turn out to be so hard to get over with. All because you’re anxious about something that might or might not happen.
As the author stated ‘Strangely though, the more cheerful side of the coin never makes it into the news. There is a plethora of headlines that would be both true and yet impossible to run--’.
I promise, that by the end of the book, you will have a clear vision of what’s the purpose of those feeds and how crazy they can be when it comes to their benefits and gains. Its them against us, so let us all prepare our mindsets first so we can move on and never allow them to win the game we already know the tactics of.
Favourite quotes from the book !
- ‘we should remain at all times sceptically alert to the potentially gross idiocy that may lie concealed beneath the most beautiful fonts and the most authoritative and credible headlines--’.
- ‘when we are feeling edgy and inclined to escape ourselves, what better, more immersive, and more respectable solution than to run to the news. It provides the ideal, serious-minded excuse for failing to pay attention to many things that might matter more’.
