The Locked Door: By Freida McFadden
'Someone is watching me. I can feel it. it doesn't logically make sense that a person should be able to feel somebody's gaze on the back of her head, but somehow I can right now'
Nothing could ever go wrong with a Freida McFadden book right?, I mean what can?
Well, let me tell you something, everything can and will go wrong. Its Freida McFadden .. and the rest shall be known through the books.
I’m not a new McFadden reader, I have been devouring her books like a sacred prayer of mine. Ever since she first popped into the world of literature, that's when my personal journey with her started, and the psychotic mind of mine introduced itself.
( don't fear me, I'm harmless .. )
Freida is known for her spine-chilling books and plots that create a whole different mood for readers. Making us look behind the doors, the closet and even under the bed. just checking if there's anyone hiding under, or even a stalker watching us from afar. I personally go over that exact same ritual after every book of hers that I come to finish. I just can't stand still, something tells about an unknown presence ..
The locked Door is another thriller that made my heart stop with every page flip. I kid you not, but I did have multiple panic attacks just going through the twists. One after another, creating a whole chart of plots with a connection that never crossed my mind .. I even started to act like an FBI!
In this book, the storyline follows Nora Davis, a successful surgeon who is unfortunate enough to be the daughter of a famous serial killer who left his trademark by not only ending lives, but also slashing his victims hands which he kept as souvenirs.
Yess souvenirs ..
All that, through a locked door of the basement that was kept hidden from Nora’s eyes. Although she tried multiple times to peek in or at least get herself inside, her attempts failed. Except for that specific one and only time when the door was surprisingly free and unsealed. That’s when her nightmare started.
Among all the things she has gone through, two factors of that day and particular incident will never leave her mind and thought. No matter how much she tried to get over them in her
The smell of Lavender and a cage with a pair of blue eyes staring at her soul, are two of the major things you shall keep in mind while reading along the words and going in a little journey of surprises. That's when you will know what I mean ..
( hoping that the smell of lavender and a picture of a cage will not haunt you in your sleep .. or life. )
After her parents imprisonment and involvement in the criminal world, Nora had to be under the custody of a guardian, due to her being under age. She was only 11 when she witnessed it all, and the life she never imagined for herself started to take action. With parents being away and a last name that haunted her, there was no way to escape her life and history. A history of a family she wanted nothing to do with. So without any hesitation, she changed her last name from Nierling, to Davis. As a way to secure a life for herself and a career without bringing the past to her present.
A good plan it was and is, until 2 of her patients were murdered in the same way her father orchestrated his acts. Making her the first name on a the suspects list.
Her father took lives in the most absurd of ways, while she tried to save lives instead. But that's not something that was taken into consideration. With a pair of hands found in her car, and blood dripping in her basement .. all eyes were on her.
The killing spree was an obvious act of someone who knew her in person. Trying to mock and show her that they know who she really is, even if she's hiding under a new identity for security measures beyond anyone's imagination.
But the questions is .. was she really safe ? after all that time of hiding under a new identity and eliminating whatever remains and traces she had from the past, did no one suspect her? her looks? her blue eyes and dark her ?
That's something you will find for yourself ..
With all the twists and turns going on, there's something you will not see coming. Something that only brilliant authors with a mindset of an FBI can manage creating .. and its the person responsible of orchestrating and recreating what Nora's father have in the past ..
The surprise will come in unexpectedly, as its something, or rather a piece of information that was not mentioned AT ALL. Not a hint was given or anything to make your mind detect the person. Only when it happens will you know, and that will definitely be your 'OOOHHHH' moment.
So, stick tight, for you will finish the book in one setting, I PROMISE.
You might as well consider canceling all of your plans for the night to spend it with Freida McFadden, which you will never ever ever ever regret!
Enjoy the book in advance and .. good luck with the roller coaster of a plot twist you’ll find yourself in!
