Love Sports Hate Politics: By Rick Figg
Politics and Sports, two words that sets the multiple alarms in your minds ON. its that kind of confusion as to what and how, one question leading to another. But leave all that behind for now. For this book has all the answers you need, even if you’re someone who is not into politics and sports, you will still enjoy and love love it !
As much as the book was so fun to read, the author did hit on important and sensitive topics that the world and especially America is going through and is struggling with at the moment. Some national issues are said to be solved within the nation, but sometimes when the leader is as absurd and careless, then there’s nothing one can do.
When covid came in through, the U.S. have gone through a turmoil of events. Events that were life-threatening in terms of national and international policy making. As people were losing their battle with an unknown virus, the U.S. had a leader who assured everyone that all is well and it's nothing to be afraid of because it’s a hoax. Well, the joke was on him, because HE did get the virus. And he got it bad, very very bad my friends. You probably have few guesses here and there, and there’s one specific name that is not leaving your mind . . .
Yes its him ,
The ‘YOU’RE FIRED’ guy.
The one and old Mr. Former president, Trump.
In the book, the author touched all of the major topics and issues while making a connection to sports, and no its not a connection where differences will be drawn in a boring way. No it's more of a philosophical debate between an author and his readers. A kind of debate that allows one to draw more conclusions with every page. Allowing the readers to think and analyze what has been said and what is being said.
In some way, the political field is similar and identical to an actual sports field. One has to play a dangerous game with its rivals and use whatever weapons of destruction provided to ensure a winning game. However, the difference rests in the truth of the facts within the game.
As the author stated in the book, in sports people act as witnesses, they see, judge and talk. But when it comes to politics, there’s nothing much to see except for what’s being aired. And for most of the time, its not the truth, it's what THEY want you to see and believe. Now not all news and media platforms are the same, but some are. As they work hard to mislead people from the truth and blind them with false information that supports a specific leader and its party.
I really loved the details provided by the author, which added more value to the explanation given. The examples were so relatable, that you can find them right in your smartphones NOW. The aforesaid includes the media and the roots it has implanted in world politics. Not only that, but even the way its influence circulated the digital world and was put into action, as to encourage doing what’s not to be done, such as acts of corruption, hate and even misleading people using such technological tools. Causing a whole zone of confusion sided with hate and eventually leading to violence. All were explained clearly through real life events, such as the unforgettable attack on the Capitol, the elections and much more.
I will not go into further details, not to spoil the details that one shall enjoy alone !
Section after section, the author introduced us to important struggles and topics of interest that concerns humanity as a whole, that even those who are not Americans by birth or citizenship, like myself, can see and relate to by heart and soul. Starting from the chapter about racism, to the media, the presidential election, and the American flag, it was all just so heart-warming to see how the unification of America came to be. And its not easy to see all the historical work that the founding fathers and loyal citizens struggled to keep strong and bold, go to waste for a leader who is not responsible enough to take serious actions. A leader who misled his nation for the sake of fame and benefit. A leader who thought that the United States is a reality show and ruled as its loving host.
In the end, I would like to leave you with a quote that touched my heart about the flag. The flag that as the author stated in the book, was used as a symbol for nationalism in a very corrupted situation. it was sad to see the American flag used for immoral purposes, purposes that mean pure destruction. And it is up to us readers to act, by first educating ourselves and knowing the truth, making good judgments, and finally assure that the next generation is free from all that hate-related ideologies that acts as a dividing factor to separate.
‘The American flag is representative of all American people. The American flag is a great symbol. We all need to pick it up lifted up’.
So do yourself favor and get the book to learn
more about the American politics and enjoy !!
