Maybe Someday: By Colleen Hoover
Since February is the time of love and sensation, I thought it would be nice to have a little chat about a painful romantic book to heal wounds and uplift spirits. This chat and conversation revolves around an agonizing plot that resulted in red bulky eyes and empty tissue boxes scattered all around us. Maybe Someday, By the one and only Colleen Hoover! is a painful, yet hopeful book that will teach you how to not give up on the ones you love dearly.
TW: For those who are going through a breakup and are finding it hard to move on. I’m sorry to hear that, but this publication will show you that there’s always light, albeit the darkness. And there are still people you’re meant to meet and love. For, love is always in the air, regardless of time and space.
Coincidence or Fate .. Those are the two words that popped into my mind as soon as I concluded the final line and word from the book. We sometimes assume that its our fate to meet someone but is it also our fate to love them?. Is it our fate to be blindly attached to them?. Is it fate that we tend to call that person, home?.
That’s exactly what Sydney’s situation was all about. She has been involved in a love triangle with her boyfriend who cheated on her with her roommate/ best friend. On her birthday. As painful and disastrous that might seem, I think fate intervened and gave Sydney a glimpse of the mysterious guy who played music on the balcony across her (Ridge). At that moment, Sydney thought it was nothing, but a crush and attraction or just a familiar face prior their interaction.
The day Sydney moved out of the apartment she shared with her best friend, was also the day she found herself homeless. Yet, Ridge took the lead and accommodated her into his place along with his roommates. This helpful and humane gesture turned to develop into something more than the whole idea of roommates or as we call it "just friends".
Ridge, who was in a long-term relationship the moment he met and took in Sydney, started to feel the spark. Although he tried to convince himself that it was nothing but a temporary feeling. He somehow couldn’t stop himself from loving her and wanting to devote himself to her. Not to forget, that Ridge is deaf, which makes most of their conversations documented via text and internet chats .. (ROMANTIC! .. I KNOW !! ).
With all the love and sparks going around .. they somehow got caught by Ridge’s girlfriend (Maggie) who suffers from a long-term health condition that requires attention and care. Now this is where everything comes to be serious and painful. Throughout the book, Ridge is presented as the romantic lovable partner (which he definitely is, I mean go see for yourself..). But having Sydney by his side and in his life made him question, not his feelings or loyalty, for, he sure knew that his loyalty is and will always be for Maggie. But, its more about his feelings and what he really wanted in a relationship. In the book, he admitted to Sydney that he failed to not love her. Seems like Sydney failed too. This dialogue left Ridge shattered between two lives. The life of being a loyal individual and partner to his ill girlfriend. And the life he wanted, which was filled with LIFE and LOVE. With Sydney. As he said "We’re just two completely confused souls, scared of a much unwanted yet crucial good-bye".
Between Ridge’s skepticism and desire, rests an untouched innocent love.
Is this hint enough .. ?
If not, I’ll spoil something in here and let you know that Ridge will and did end his long-term relationship with Maggie. Yes, it ended but that didn’t result in him holding Sydney’s hands and circling back.
Although, both Ridge and Sydney solemnly knew that they were meant to be, but Sydney on the other hand still needed some reassurance and trust from Ridge’s side. As she said: "As much as I’m convinced he would do everything he could to protect my heart, I’m still too scared to hand it over".
The topmost romantic apprehension in the whole puzzled situation, is that Ridge was so understanding and thoughtful about Sydney needing more time and reassurance. He gave her the time she needed to be sure of her feelings towards him, and his towards her. Not losing sight of her recent gut-wrenching relationship which ended on her birthday, with the person she trusted the most. Time and space were everything she needed, and it was given to her by Ridge, despite the pain of losing her .. for a while. As he said "I cant tell her good-bye when I don’t really want her to leave".
The whole situation between them both was so painful, especially when you as a reader know that they are meant to be!. it was not only us readers knowing such a fact, they also knew it, but they were so good at denying it. Sydney was hopeful, she knew what and who she really wanted.
As if her sacred prayer was "maybe someday?"
The book ended in the most romantic way anyone could ever fantasize about. I’m not here to spoil anything, I’ll just hint on something by quoting Sydney and leave. I PROMISE
"I feel like my maybe someday just became my right now"
In the end, I’d like to say that this book is a rollercoaster, a love rollercoaster based on a situation of being shattered between coincidence or fate ..
PS: Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
And don't feel sad if you’re spending Valentine’s Day alone, grab a book, pamper yourself and recharge .. You deserve this !
